New music distribution formats from the perspective of four of the most experienced mastering engineers in the recording industry.

We will be discussing new release formats and the recording industry issues created by them. This will include why we think various formats have succeeded or failed over the years from a recording industry point of view.

Mastering is where musical art gets married to manufacturing technology. It is the last step of the creative process and the first step in manufacturing. Mastering engineers offer a unique perspective because they are almost the only entity in the music industry who interface with a wide spectrum of recording engineers, design engineers, artists, producers, managers, label management, promotion people, sales people and broadcasters.

Each panelist has more than twenty years of experience mastering vinyl, CDs and most of the other formats the consumer electronics industry has served up over the past 40 years.

Directions

From Peninsula/S.F. Airport/Silicon Valley Take 101 North toward San Francisco. Take 80 East toward the Bay Bridge. Stay left and take 80 East toward Berkeley/Sacramento. Take the Ashby Avenue Exit. Turn left on 7th Street at the 1st light. Follow 5-6 blocks and turn right on Carleton then left on 9th Street. Turn right into our fenced parking lot.

From East Bay South Highway 880 North toward Oakland/San Francisco. Take 880 North to 980, follow 980 to 580 West toward San Francisco. Take 580 West to 80 East toward Berkeley/Sacramento. Take the Ashby Avenue Exit. Turn left on 7th Street at the 1st light. Follow 5-6 blocks and turn right on Carleton then left on 9th Street. Turn right into our fenced parking lot.

From Marin Take 580 East over the Richmond Bridge. Take 80 West toward Berkeley/San Francisco. Take the University Avenue Exit East (toward the hills). Turn right on 6th Street at the 1st light. Follow 6th to a light at a 5-way intersection. Turn left onto Dwight. Turn right onto 9th Street. Follow 1 1/2 blocks. Turn left into our parking lot.
