Internet Radio beyond the PC

Today, Internet radio is changing the face of the radio industry. The diversity of content is very attractive to listeners but the concerns of quality and portability remain. At the October 5, 2000 AES meeting, David Frerichs will discuss the state of Internet radio as both a technology and a marketplace. Specifically, Mr. Frerichs will discuss how the confluence of broadband, wireless connectivity and Internet tuning services will enable significant changes in both the way people listen and in the way content providers build a business.

David Frerichs is a founder at Sonicbox, the iM Tuning company. With a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana, Mr. Frerichs has eight years experience in the development and marketing of virtual environment and human interface products. Mr. Frerichs has two patents related to source-less virtual reality head-tracking and the scaling of virtual reality sensor data. With this technology, he started Future Vision Technologies, Inc. to develop consumer VR products. After selling his company to Fujitsu Microelectronics, Mr. Frerichs went on to build cyberspace at Silicon Graphics where, among other things, he lead the Cosmo Player product marketing team and helped found the Web 3D Consortium. In his current position at Sonicbox, Mr. Frerichs is leading the engineering team developing iM Tuners for Internet radio.

From the Peninsula - Take 101 to 237 east. Take the MATHILDA AVE exit towards San Francisco. Turn left onto MATHILDA AVE. Turn immediately right onto MOFFETT PARK DR. Turn left onto BORDEAUX DR. Cogswell is about 1/10 mile down Bordeaux Drive on the left. The meeting is in the auditorium.
