February 2007 Meeting Notice

Subject:

Power Amps—Demystified and Demythified

Speaker(s):

Bob Lee

Place:

Cogswell Polytechnical College

Time and Date:

Feb 20th, 7:30 PM (refreshments at 7:00 PM)

Description

Power amps make loudspeakers work, and therefore they make audio work for us in free space. Yet they’re an often-overlooked or misunderstood part of the audio chain. We’ll explore how power amps work, what they do and don’t do, which specs are useful and which aren’t, how a three thousand-watt amp can run on a 120V 15-ampere outlet, the interesting social structures of transistor circuitry, and other little-known secrets and curiosities of the beasts.

About the Speaker

He is an applications engineer at QSC Audio Products, Inc., in Costa Mesa, California, and has been with the company since 1993.
