Description:
Once you’ve built your dream recording studio, how do turn it
into a functional business? Using a cross-pollination of studio recording
services and education in the newly remodeled Sound Arts studio, a team of audio
engineers has reshaped this state of the art studio into a commercially viable
production and education facility.
This month AES San Francisco visits Sound Arts Studio for a tour of the recently
remodeled studio, where Christopher Willits, Ryan Kleeman and the Sound Arts
team will talk about the challenges of transforming a working studio into a
profitable business.
About the Speaker:
Christopher Willits has been
redefining guitar in the digital age, engineering his own software to create the
unique sounds he’s brought to 20 albums in the last 10 years. He completed his
Master's Degree in Electronic Music at Mills College where he studied with
Pauline Oliveros and Fred Frith. At Mills he explored structure-generating
processes in music. Prior to Mills, Willits focused on painting, video art,
sound art and music at the Kansas City Art Institute.
Willits is a Director of Education at Sound Arts and Founder / Director of the
community of artists, releases, events, and sharing at Overlap.org. He teaches
sound and audio design courses at Berkeley City College and the Art Institute of
San Francisco.
