Description:

An evening with engineer Fred Catero, looking back through his years at CBS/Columbia in New York recording Barbara Streisand, to his journey west into the heart of the San Fran sound recording greats such as Janis Joplin, Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Phoebe Snow, Chicago, Blood, Sweat & Tears, the Pointer Sisters and Journey. And along the way mentoring a legion of engineers at the Automatt. Fred has many stories to tell and many experiences to share. Join moderator Chris Cooper of Blue Seven Audio at Open Door Church San Mateo as he asks Fred to share that full life.

About the speaker:

Fred Catero is an American record producer and engineer. Originally from New York, where he worked for CBS Records/Columbia, in the mid-1960s Catero moved to San Francisco to work for Columbia Records there. In San Francisco Catero worked on many albums by top artists, including Bob Dylan and Santana. Many of his records were done at famed studio the Automatt. In the 1980s he started an independent label Catero Records to focus on jazz artists. Artists on Catero Records included Herbie Hancock, Ernie Mansfield, Cyrille Verdeaux, The Rhyth-o-matics, and Paul Speer.

About the location:

Open Door Church is a 350 seat facility located in the southern part of San Mateo. Built specifically to fit a smaller church needs inside an existing building. The main worship center was designed(layout and acoustics) and implemented by Chris Cooper of Blue Seven Audio in 2009. Specifically set up for modern Christian performance and use as a small event center the equipment includes: APB Dynasonics 32 channel board, outboard, Nexo sound system, Shure PSM 900 in-ear systems, wireless and wired microphones, video and graphics display across a custom designed seamless 3 screen setup and full lighting trusses with LED and standard fixtures.
